Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
We began on January 24, 2017, with five members Most Worshipful Grand Master Ellis G. Simpson, Jr., Right Worshipful Matthew Stanley, Past Master Jayjuan McMillian, Past Grand Master Floyd E. Bagwell and Brother Charles Barfield. The five of us met every Thursday until our mid-year session March 11, 2017. At our session, we stated the status of the committee. We were then asked to include some of the Grand Lodge Principle Officers and we complied.
On March 17, 2017, Deputy Grand Master David Pinkins, Senior Grand Warden Arnold Holmes, Junior Grand Warden Alfonson Robinson and Chairman of the Trustee Board Right Worshipful Ron Williams joined the committee. We continued to meet every Thursday with the assistance of the Grand Lodge officers to complete our task. Grand Master Simpson called an Occasional Grand Lodge Session on May 13, 2017 to vote on the documents we had prepared to be sent to the State of Connecticut and the I.R.S. for the 501 (C) 3 designation which were accepted by the craft.
On May 24, 2017, we registered with the State of CT. the Certificate of Incorporation and the Organization of First Report. On June 5, 2017, we received our Acceptance letter from the State.
On June 14, 2017, Grand Master Simpson and I applied to the I.R.S. for an Employee Identification Number (EIN) to be considered for the 501 (C) 3 designation. We received the EIN number the same day, but now we have to wait for the I.R.S. to determine if we qualify for the EXEMPT STATUS.
On June 21, 2017, we received notification that we qualified for exemption status from federal income tax under the IRS code section 501 (C) 3. We also qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts under Sections 2055, 2106 or 2522.
